As a policeman, you will act in partnership with communities that serve to maintain law and order, protect members of the public and property, prevent crime, reduce crime fears and improve the quality of life in the community for all the citizens. You will use various technologies for protecting people, identifying perpetrators and ensuring the successful prosecution of those who violate the law.

The main priorities of police forces are to maintain law and order through the fight against organized crime, the fight against terrorist threats and the fight against anti-social behavior. Police officers work closely with members of the criminal justice system, social workers, schools, local businesses, health trusts, housing agencies, planners and social groups. In this way they can provide advice, education and help to those who want to reduce crime or have been affected by this crime.

Responsibilities

As a policeman you will need:

  • Working with communities, in relation to groups and individuals in the community
  • To provide visible presence in order to prevent crime and assure the community;
  • Carry out patrol business on foot, car, and bicycle
  • Develop community knowledge to identify individuals and places where there is a risk of being involved in a crime.
  • Respond to proposals and inquiries from the public to help with incidents
  • Maintain peace in public meetings, social events, processions, trade disputes or strikes
  • Diffuse potentially unstable situations with due respect for the safety of all involved
  • Act sensitive in situations such as the transmission of news of sudden death or sexual offenses
  • Conduct initial investigations, gather evidence, make statements and comply with relevant legal qualifications
  • Interviews suspects, victims, and witnesses in relation to applicable laws
  • Conduct arrest with respect to human rights, security, health and safety of prisoners, members of the public, colleagues and staff
  • Prepare reports of crimes and present a lawsuit to senior officials
  • Attend and testify in court and at other hearings
  • Complete administrative procedures;
  • Submit internal crime reports and criminal intelligence reports
  • Investigate and take action on information provided by members of the public
  • Collect, record and analyze information in order to achieve the objectives of the community for the safety and reduction of crimes and provide advice on the prevention of crime
  • Take instructions on the specific tasks of older colleagues
  • Assist with road incidents, including crash scenes, vehicle control points and road traffic offenses
  • Enforce traffic laws and impose fixed sanctions for the crimes in question
  • Manage lost or found property.

Qualifications

There is no formal educational requirement for entering the police force; however, all consultations that can be carried out can lead to new initiators to become acquainted with high-level vocation before beginning the service. Currently, the position is open to graduates, those with HND qualifications and non-graduates.
